Text Encryption Tool
Encrypt a message or note with a password using AES-256-GCM, then decrypt it later. Runs in your browser — text and password are never uploaded.

Privacy and processing
All processing happens in this browser tab with built-in browser APIs. Nothing you type or select is sent to ToolsWebPro servers, and this tool sends no analytics about its contents. Encryption is only as strong as the password: anyone who has both the ciphertext and the password can read the text, and a forgotten password cannot be recovered by anyone.
How to use Text Encryption Tool
- 1Choose Encrypt, then type or paste the text you want to protect.
- 2Enter a strong password — ideally a passphrase of four or more random words.
- 3Select Encrypt text and copy the result. It starts with VFdQM and can be pasted anywhere plain text is accepted.
- 4To read it later, switch to Decrypt, paste the encrypted text and enter the same password.
What you can do
AES-256-GCM
Authenticated encryption — a wrong password or edited ciphertext fails instead of returning garbage.
PBKDF2-SHA256, 600,000 iterations
Slows down password-guessing against copied ciphertext, following OWASP's current recommendation.
Fresh salt and IV every time
Encrypting the same text twice gives different output, so repeated messages are not recognisable.
Copy-paste friendly
The result is a single Base64 string that survives email, chat apps and documents.
When this tool helps
Sending a Wi-Fi password, door code or account recovery note through a channel you do not fully trust.
Storing a private note in a shared document or cloud drive.
Agreeing a password in person, then exchanging encrypted messages over email.
About Text Encryption Tool
This text encryption tool uses the Web Crypto API built into modern browsers. A 256-bit key is derived from your password with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 using a random 16-byte salt and 600,000 iterations, then your UTF-8 text is encrypted with AES-256 in GCM mode with a random 12-byte nonce. The output packs a short version marker, the salt, the nonce and the ciphertext with its 128-bit authentication tag into one Base64 string, so the same tool can decrypt it later without any server. Because GCM is authenticated, changing even one character of the result makes decryption fail. The tool does not provide forward secrecy, identity verification or message expiry. For a live two-way conversation use ChatCrypt encrypted chat, which creates a separate key per room and lets messages expire. Create a strong passphrase with the password generator, and read how password cracking works to see why length matters. To prove a file has not changed rather than hide it, use the SHA-256 hash generator.
Turn any message, note or secret into password-protected ciphertext you can paste into email, chat or a document. The key is derived from your password with PBKDF2-SHA256 (600,000 iterations) and the text is sealed with AES-256-GCM, which also detects tampering. Decrypt with the same password. No account, no upload.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I encrypt text with a password?
- Paste your text, enter a password and select Encrypt text. Copy the result and send it; the recipient pastes it into Decrypt and enters the same password. Share the password through a different channel than the encrypted text.
- Which encryption algorithm does this tool use?
- AES-256 in GCM mode. The key is derived from your password with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256, 600,000 iterations and a random 16-byte salt. Each encryption also uses a random 12-byte nonce.
- Can you recover my text if I forget the password?
- No. The password never leaves your browser and is not stored anywhere, so nobody — including ToolsWebPro — can decrypt the text without it.
- Why does decryption fail with the correct password?
- The encrypted text was probably changed or cut off when it was copied — for example, an app wrapped or trimmed it. GCM authentication rejects any modified ciphertext. Copy the full string again.
- Is this the same as ChatCrypt?
- No. This tool encrypts a single piece of text with a password you choose. ChatCrypt is a live encrypted chat room with an invite link and message expiry. Both run their encryption in your browser.
- Can other tools decrypt the output?
- Only software that implements the same format: version marker, salt, nonce and AES-GCM ciphertext in Base64, with the same PBKDF2 settings. It is designed to be decrypted here.
