Image to Text OCR
Extract editable text from JPG, PNG or WebP images in English, German, French or Spanish. Free OCR in your browser, with no image upload.
Best for clear printed text and screenshots. Large images are resized for recognition; crop to small text for better results. Handwriting, complex tables and unusual fonts may need manual correction. To read a scanned PDF, use the PDF to Word converter.
What is the Image to Text OCR?
Image to Text OCR reads printed words from a JPG, PNG or WebP image and turns them into editable plain text. Choose English, German, French or Spanish, then copy the result or download a TXT file. Recognition runs on your device.
Supported formats
- Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG or WebP; up to 20 MB and 16 megapixels
- Recognition: English, German, French or Spanish
- Output: editable plain text and UTF-8 TXT
Privacy and processing
Your image and extracted text stay in this browser tab. OCR engine and language files are downloaded from this website. Optional analytics records fixed tool-action labels, never image contents, filenames or recognised text.
How to use Image to Text OCR
- 1Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image, or try the synthetic sample file. Files can be up to 20 MB and 16 megapixels.
- 2Select the language used in the image: English, German, French or Spanish. Choose the document language, even if your browser uses another language.
- 3Press Extract text. The first run loads the OCR engine and language model; keep the tab open, or use Cancel OCR to stop.
- 4Review the editable result, correct recognition mistakes, then copy it or download a UTF-8 TXT file.

About Image to Text OCR
The Image to Text converter uses optical character recognition to turn image pixels into editable text. It works best with sharp, well-lit images of printed paragraphs. Choose the language that matches the source, crop unnecessary borders, and use a straight-on image when possible. Large images are scaled to at most six million pixels for recognition, so cropping a small area of text can be more useful than processing a whole high-resolution photo. The result is plain text: fonts, spreadsheet cells and the original page layout are not preserved. Handwriting, curved pages and complex tables can require substantial corrections. Read names, decimal separators and reference numbers carefully before using the output. For a scanned PDF rather than an image, use the PDF to Word converter, which also offers OCR. To prepare a screenshot for sharing, you can resize the image or add your own text watermark.
Turn screenshots and photos of printed text into editable plain text. Select one of four languages, recognise the image on your device, correct the result, then copy it or download a TXT file. No signup or image upload.

Frequently asked questions
- Does this image to text converter upload my image?
- No. Your browser downloads the OCR engine and selected language model, then processes your image locally. Neither the image nor the recognised text is sent to a processing server.
- Which OCR languages and image types are supported?
- Choose English, German, French or Spanish. Input formats are JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP, with a 20 MB and 16-megapixel limit. Convert other formats before choosing the image here.
- Can I convert a screenshot to editable text?
- Yes. Choose a clear screenshot, select its text language and press Extract text. You can edit the recognised result, copy it or download a UTF-8 TXT file.
- Will OCR preserve tables or recognise handwriting perfectly?
- No. Output is plain text and does not retain the original page layout. Handwriting, tables, small print and low-contrast images can produce mistakes; review the result before using it.
