About Tribunal Deadline Calculator
ToolsWebPro Unfair Dismissal & Employment Tribunal Deadline Calculator is a free, privacy-first legal timeline utility designed for employees and employers in England, Wales, and Scotland. Enacted under the landmark Employment Rights Act 2025 and commencement regulations (SI 2026/954, SI 2026/758, SI 2026/759), the UK employment regime undergoes dual major reforms: the tribunal limitation period increases from 3 months to 6 months (less one day) for events on or after 1 October 2026, and unfair dismissal qualifying continuous service reduces from 2 years to 6 months for dismissals where the effective date of termination (EDT) is on or after 1 January 2027. This tool harmonizes both transition rules, factors in Acas Early Conciliation pause math under ERA 1996 s.207B and the binding Luton Borough Council v Haque EAT decision, applies statutory minimum notice extensions under s.97(2), and exports iCalendar (.ics) alerts with 14-day and 3-day filing reminders. Explore our detailed guides on the 6-Month Qualifying Period (1 Jan 2027) and Tribunal Time Limits & Acas Conciliation, or create custom reminders with our ICS Calendar Generator.

Frequently asked questions
- How long do I have to bring an employment tribunal claim?
- Most claims have six months less one day from the relevant date where it falls on or after 1 October 2026; earlier dates keep three months less one day. You must go through Acas early conciliation first.
- Does the six-month limit apply to a dismissal on 30 September 2026?
- No, the change is not retrospective, so three months less one day applies.
- When does the unfair dismissal qualifying period drop to six months?
- Where the EDT is on or after 1 January 2027. Before that, two years. Employees employed on or before 1 July 2026 will already have six months' service on 1 January 2027.
- What is the effective date of termination?
- With notice, the day notice expires; without notice, the day termination takes effect.
- Does notice or pay in lieu change my qualifying service?
- It can: the statutory minimum notice (one week in the first two years) can be added when you were dismissed without notice, except for gross misconduct.
- Do I need qualifying service for discrimination or automatically unfair dismissal?
- No. Claims under the Equality Act 2010 (discrimination, harassment) and automatically unfair dismissal claims (whistleblowing, health and safety, pregnancy, asserting statutory rights) are Day-1 rights with no qualifying period.
- How does Acas early conciliation change my deadline?
- The days between Day A and Day B stop the clock, and you always get at least one month after Day B (worked through step by step per the Luton Borough Council v Haque decision).
- Do I have to contact Acas before the deadline?
- Yes, Acas must be contacted within the primary limit, then you claim by the extended date.
- Is the cap on unfair dismissal compensation changing?
- It is due to be removed from 1 January 2027; this tool does not calculate compensation.
- Does this cover Northern Ireland, and is this legal advice?
- No to both. Northern Ireland operates under separate devolved legislation (Industrial Tribunals Order 1996), and this tool provides general informational guidance only, not formal legal advice. Always speak to Acas, Citizens Advice, a trade union, or an employment solicitor before relying on a date.
