Peppol Invoice Pre-Check
Spot a selection of missing fields and arithmetic issues before running full invoice validation in your receiving or access-point system.
Invoice parsing and the displayed checks run in your browser without uploading invoice contents. These checks do not establish official Peppol or XRechnung conformance. Site analytics and asset requests are separate from document processing.
Drop the Peppol, UBL or XRechnung XML you want to check
You get a pass / fail list of the business-rule checks below. Nothing is uploaded.
No invoice loaded yet
Drop any UBL XML (Invoice or CreditNote), XRechnung (CrossIndustryInvoice), or ZUGFeRD / Factur-X PDF invoice above to view it instantly.
What is the Peppol Invoice Pre-Check?
The ToolsWebPro PEPPOL Invoice Validator is a free pre-check for Peppol BIS 3.0, UBL and XRechnung XML invoices. It runs 16 EN 16931 / Peppol business-rule checks in your browser (mandatory fields, buyer or order reference, seller VAT ID, payment details and whether the totals and VAT add up) and shows a pass / fail report with rule IDs. It is not the official Peppol validator: it does not check the XML schema, code lists or the full Schematron rules.
Supported formats
- Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 (UBL 2.1 Invoice and CreditNote)
- XRechnung in CII or UBL
- ZUGFeRD / Factur-X PDFs (the embedded XML is checked)
- Not covered: XSD schema validation, code lists, full Schematron rule set
Output and limitations
What this pre-check covers
This pre-check examines a selection of invoice fields, references and arithmetic relationships. Read each finding with the rendered invoice and original XML. A clean pre-check means only that these checks did not identify an issue.
What requires a complete validator
This tool does not apply the full XML schema, code lists or complete Peppol/EN16931 Schematron rules. A file can pass here and still fail a receiving system. Confirm the syntax, profile and rule-set version with the validator used for your actual submission.
Fix the source, then check again
Correct issues in the system that generated the invoice, export a new original and re-run the checks. Do not silently change invoice amounts in a downloaded view. Keep the original and retain the receiving system’s actual error report for diagnosis.
Privacy and processing
This is a quick pre-check, not the official validator. It does not check the XML schema (XSD), code lists or the full Peppol / EN 16931 Schematron rule set. Passing here does not guarantee that an Access Point or a government portal will accept the invoice. Everything runs in your browser. The file is read with JavaScript on your device and is never uploaded to ToolsWebPro or anyone else, so you can open invoices that contain bank details and prices without sending them to a third-party service.
How to use Peppol Invoice Pre-Check
- 1Drop the Peppol BIS 3.0, UBL or XRechnung .xml file on the upload area, or click Invoice with mistakes to see what a failing report looks like.
- 2Read the Validation report: each check shows a green tick, an amber warning or a red error, with the EN 16931 / Peppol rule ID.
- 3Look at the notices below the report for the exact values, for example which totals do not match.
- 4Fix the issue in the system that created the invoice, then load the new file again. Before sending, also run the official validation of your Access Point.
What you can do
16 business-rule checks
Mandatory fields (BT-1, BT-2, BT-5, BT-27, BT-44), at least one line, buyer/order reference, seller VAT ID and its country prefix, due date or terms, IBAN for credit transfer.
Arithmetic checks
Line sum vs line total (BR-12), net + VAT = gross (BR-CO-15), gross minus prepaid = amount due (BR-CO-16), VAT per rate (BR-CO-17).
Rule IDs shown
Every check names the EN 16931 or Peppol rule it relates to, so you can look it up.
Readable invoice next to the report
See the invoice itself, not just a list of errors.
When this tool helps
Before sending
Catch missing references or totals that do not add up before a customer's system rejects the invoice.
After a rejection
Load the rejected file to find the obvious cause quickly.
Developers
Sanity-check UBL or CII output while building an export.
About Peppol Invoice Pre-Check
The ToolsWebPro PEPPOL Invoice Validator is a fast, private pre-check for e-invoices. It reads Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, UBL 2.1 and XRechnung (CII or UBL) files in your browser and runs 16 checks taken from EN 16931 and Peppol business rules: whether the invoice number, issue date, currency, seller name and buyer name are present; whether there is at least one line; whether a buyer reference or order reference is given (and the Buyer Reference that XRechnung requires); whether the seller VAT ID exists and starts with a country prefix; whether a due date or payment terms are given; whether an IBAN is present for SEPA credit transfer; and whether the line sum, gross total, amount due and VAT per rate add up. It is not the official Peppol validator. The official validation (used by Access Points) checks the XML schema, all code lists and the complete Schematron rules, which this tool does not. To understand what the fields mean, read what is a PEPPOL invoice, or open the file in the PEPPOL Invoice Viewer.
ToolsWebPro provides this tool free with no account required. Each tool explains its supported formats, processing limits and privacy behavior.
Frequently asked questions
- Does passing guarantee my invoice will be accepted?
- No. These selected field and arithmetic checks are not complete Peppol validation. Your access point, recipient or official validator can identify additional issues. Always use the validation required by your actual receiving workflow.
- Does this run XML Schema or the full Schematron rules?
- No. It currently runs selected field and arithmetic checks rather than XML Schema or complete Schematron validation. Read its omissions before using the result, and run the appropriate formal validator when your workflow requires standards validation.
- Can I use a readable PDF instead of the XML?
- The readable PDF is a representation, not the structured original. Preserve the original XML or hybrid file and perform formal validation on the relevant structured document, not merely the printed view.
